Vetruva — Artistic Proposal Note
Vetruva
Vetruva and the Wider Website
Vetruva (Vetro-Vetruvian-Uva) is part of the MetaMathics geometric morphologies range: a creative enterprise undertaken through Localisation Objects.
It is conceived as a technical collaboration between the designer and two historically distinct traditions of glass-making: one industrial, laboratory-technical and precision-led; the other inherited, familial and Murano-mastercrafted. The work places the same geometric law under two different procedures, allowing the observer to encounter not a duplicate, but a meaningful divergence. One tradition approaches form as function; the other transforms function into form.
The title contains a hidden fold between the Vitruvian tradition of geometric proportion and vetro, glass. Within it sits the “uva”: grape, intoxication, sweetness, and the Easter egg of cultivated excess. This becomes the poetic aperture through which the observer may perceive the difference between the two traditions, their histories, their procedures, and their diverging relationships to function.
The work therefore stages a triadic experience between craftsperson, designer and observer, manifested through the gallery. Suspended together, the sculptures propose a voluntary dialogue between exactitude and breath, calculation and hand, historical proportion and material intoxication. Their shared geometry becomes the means by which their histories separate.
Whether it is worth looking at is a personal matter for the observer.
Thank you for visiting this website. Its broader remit is to share the developing objects, essays, visual studies, mathematical notes and constitutional records associated with Dot Theory, Constitutional Physics and MetaMathics. These pages do not ask the visitor to accept a finished system in advance. They offer a record of work in formation: drawings, propositions, experiments, correspondences and objects through which questions of observation, localisation, representation, meaning and communicable reality are being explored.
Some pages are artistic. Some are mathematical. Some are speculative, documentary, technical or constitutional. They are placed together because the project treats these not as separate territories, but as different ways in which structured experience may become shareable, testable, interpretable and, where possible, understood.
