PLog 4 — The Scientific Object Is a Pair
PCR, PCN and the constitutional atom of communicable scientific computation
A position paper on stopping, jurisdiction, constituted identity and the minimum object that can properly fail.
Dot Theory / Constitutional Physics Research Programme
PLog — Entry IV | 9 October 2026
⊙
In PLog 3, Not Even Wrong, I suggested that science possesses an unusual privilege.
It is allowed to be wrong.
More precisely, science becomes useful because it can construct propositions in forms capable of encountering adverse information without making the whole activity collapse.
That earlier PLog can be read as part of the developing Scientific Epistemic Metrology trajectory described on Dot Theory and subsequently formalised in SEM:
https://www.dottheory.co.uk/paper/captains-log
https://zenodo.org/records/23041075
But that leaves a prior question.
What has to exist before something can properly be wrong?
Recent work around:
PCR — Provisionally Constituted for Rejection
and:
PCN — Prospective Constitutional Notice
appears to provide a candidate answer.
The answer is not entirely new.
Looking backwards through the Dot Theory developmental record, several earlier objects were repeatedly approaching the same structure from different directions.
PCR and PCN may therefore be less an invention than a compression.
Before PCR there was closure
The earlier A Thing to Think About sequence had already produced a peculiar requirement.
A scientific or argumentative object has to become sufficiently itself before judgement can properly reach it.
The collected first sequence is preserved in The Fifteenth ATTA — Collected Pamphlet of Nos. 1–14, July 2026. The compilation explicitly preserves each constituent paper as its own developmental object rather than retrospectively replacing it.
Several of those papers are especially relevant here.
ATTA No. 4 — Being Right Is Having Nothing to Add After the Fact argued that the relevant object of judgement is the sufficiently constituted case rather than the righteous person. It proposed that a case should carry enough of its own governing conditions that the reader is not required to invent them.
It also produced a formulation that now reads almost like a predecessor to PCR:
a proposition should be sufficiently clear to be challenged, sufficiently bounded to fail locally, sufficiently documented to be reconstructed, and capable of failure without dissolving into another proposition.
ATTA No. 6 — What Comes After Closure Belongs to the Successor then made closure explicit:
A claim becomes eligible for closure when its scope, evidence, authority, dependencies, exclusions, limitations and failure conditions have been sufficiently declared for it to be judged as the claim it presently is.
Closure did not mean final truth. It fixed the object presently available for judgement while leaving later correction and succession possible.
The resulting successor rule was equally important:
Any later addition that changes constitutive content creates a successor claim rather than retrospectively enlarging the prior closed claim.
ATTA No. 7 — A Claim Has the Right to Be Wrong then added adverse standing.
A claim is independently judgeable only where its identity is sufficiently closed, the criteria and authority of judgement are declared independently of the result, and failure is allowed to attach without retrospective supplementation or reclassification.
Its closing observation was:
The claim receives a status because it has become bounded enough to encounter one.
ATTA No. 8 — The Rule Must Enter Its Own Record then made the structure reflexive: a rule assigning standards to other claims must itself be available for recovery, closure, independent judgement and failure.
ATTA No. 9 — The Return Must Have an Address added the requirement that recursion preserve an identifiable point of return. A return without an address becomes reconstruction wearing the name of repetition.
And ATTA No. 10 — The Bow Means the Show Is Over supplied the communicable STOP boundary: closure must be rendered sufficiently that continuation, replay and succession can be distinguished.
Those papers were not using the later vocabulary PCR or PCN.
But collectively they were already asking:
When has an object acquired enough identity to be judged as that object?
PCR gives that stopping point a compact candidate name.
PCR — sufficiently itself to fail
PCR — Provisionally Constituted for Rejection
describes a candidate object whose identity, scope, dependencies, claims and relevant failure conditions have become sufficiently constituted that an adverse result can attach to it without requiring it to become something else.
PCR does not mean:
provisionally true.
It does not mean:
approved.
It does not mean:
validated.
And it does not mean:
finished forever.
It means something narrower:
This object has become sufficiently identifiable that failure can now reach it.
That changes the scientific relation.
During development, modification is expected.
After PCR, a material modification is no longer merely improvement of the same test object.
It may constitute a successor.
So:
development → PCR → examination
rather than:
development ↔ criticism ↔ redesign ↔ criticism
without an identifiable stopping point.
The achievement is not protection from rejection.
It is the opposite.
Constitution creates the conditions under which rejection becomes scientifically meaningful.
The first operational PCR case
PCR emerged by name during an October 2026 dialogue between Diana Haskins and Stefaan Vossen concerning the relationship between constitution, examination and stopping.
The immediate problem arose while Diana was working through Chapter 2 of the developing Haskins–Vossen dialogue Entitled to Know, Permitted to Act.
The route did not begin with PCR.
It proceeded through objections to words such as:
entitled
permitted
licensed
and eventually:
Final.
During that examination Diana proposed that Final might be better represented as Constituted, because no examined step had earned permanent immunity from later re-examination.
The discussion then reached the question of how something could be constituted sufficiently to proceed without being promoted into final truth.
From that pressure point Stefaan proposed:
PCR — Provisionally Constituted for Rejection.
The wording is therefore presently a Vossen candidate formulation arising from the Haskins–Vossen examination, not a canonical FER term.
Diana Haskins remains the source author of FER and UEC. PCR should not be attributed to FER unless or until that relationship is independently accepted within the relevant source framework.
The first operational use then occurred in a separate scientific correspondence involving Jaime Quílez Zamora, Johann Pascher and Stefaan Vossen.
Jaime explicitly accepted PCR as the standing under which his then-current three-modulus Poly-Instanton candidate would be frozen and allowed to return an adverse result.
Johann independently reconstructed the declared mathematical object and returned:
REJECTED.
The significance of that exchange was not that PCR proved the underlying physics.
It was that the submitted scientific target remained sufficiently fixed for rejection to attach to it while the residual, limitations and successor requirements stayed recoverable.
That email thread therefore constitutes the first concrete experimental material presently associated with the PCR proposal.
Its contributors retain their own roles:
Jaime Quílez Zamora — source author/submitting scientist for the scientific candidate;
Johann Pascher — independent examiner of the frozen mathematical object;
Stefaan Vossen — proposer of the PCR procedural notation and recorder of the resulting disposition.
Acceptance of a procedural notation in that thread does not imply endorsement by any participant of every wider theoretical interpretation developed from it here.
But constituting the object is not enough
Suppose the target is perfectly clear.
Its equations are fixed.
Its source is preserved.
Its parameters are frozen.
Its failure conditions have been declared.
We may still have another problem.
Under what operation is that target being judged?
Which distinctions matter?
What must remain invariant?
Who sees what?
Which criteria control the result?
What is the result allowed to change?
And where must interpretation stop?
A perfectly constituted object can still enter a badly constituted examination.
This is the second half of the problem.
CITO had already located the interface
The Constitutive Interface Theory of Observation — CITO approached this problem from the standing of representations.
Dot Theory introduction:
https://www.dottheory.co.uk/paper/cito
CITO's central distinction is approximately:
representational availability ≠ unrestricted operational standing
A representation may exist without being entitled to support every later scientific operation.
A visualisation may be useful without constituting measurement.
A measurement may support comparison without establishing causation.
A successful model may predict without turning every representational component into physical substrate.
CITO therefore proposes an intermediate constitutive relation between representation and downstream scientific operation.
Its working form was:
R → κ → Oᴶ → Ω
where:
R = available representation;
κ = constituting relation;
Oᴶ = representation constituted with jurisdiction J;
Ω = the specified subsequent operation.
CITO deliberately separates the problem from its possible implementation.
Its argumentative sequence is:
problem → theoretical object → candidate implementation → experimental test
rather than allowing the vocabulary of Constitutional Physics to validate the problem merely by redescribing it. That argumentative separation is explicit in the CITO drafting architecture.
CITO therefore asks:
By what relation does something represented become entitled to function as something for what science does next?
PCR now appears to localise the target side of that problem.
PCN appears to localise the prospective-operation side.
The Seme had already identified the carrier problem
Another predecessor appears in:
how they Seme
https://www.dottheory.co.uk/paper/how-they-seme
The Seme arose from a case in which a mathematical computation could remain formally correct while its attribution to the intended scientific object failed.
The mathematics survived.
The semantic entitlement did not.
That produced a distinction which subsequently became important to SEM:
formal validity → referential entitlement → evidential standing → ontological standing
with no automatic arrow between them.
The Seme therefore identified a carrier problem:
a compact formal object can travel farther than the constitutional relation which originally entitled it to mean what it meant.
SEM made standing itself the object of metrology
Scientific Epistemic Metrology subsequently expanded that predecessor problem into a proposed discipline.
Scientific Epistemic Metrology — SEM v0.5
https://zenodo.org/records/23041075
SEM defines its object as the traceability, calibration, uncertainty, drift, equivalence and bounded standing of scientific claims as they move through successive representational transformations.
Its candidate canonical chain is:
source → exposure → operation → result → standing → residual → successor
SEM therefore does not try to measure Reality directly.
It asks whether the standing assigned to a scientific representation remains traceable to the source and operation that licensed it.
Its jurisdictional premise is deliberately constrained:
calibration before ontology
SEM does not deny science access to ontological questions.
It denies ontology automatic inheritance from successful representation.
That distinction is central to the present PCR/PCN proposal.
PCR and PCN appear to occupy the prospective front-end of the SEM chain.
They ask:
What has to be constituted before a scientifically meaningful standing transition occurs?
Related archival object
The wider development should also be read alongside the earlier research object deposited at:
https://zenodo.org/records/21626531
I retain that link here deliberately as part of the developmental trail. Its relation to the present argument should be read historically and prospectively rather than as independent validation of PCR, PCN or the present PLog4.
PCN — constituting the conditions of disposition
The second candidate object arose particularly clearly during the SEM–HLV-FA-DYN-001 pre-execution freeze correspondence among myself, Johann Pascher and Marcel Krüger.
The immediate object was not a new scientific criterion.
It was a proposed Constitutional Guidance Notice identifying:
the scientific claim-state being preserved;
the representational transformation under test;
what distinctions had to remain recoverable;
and where recovery legitimately stopped.
Johann agreed that the notice recorded framing already instantiated by the frozen objects rather than introducing a new criterion, while recommending one additional safeguard:
if explanatory language in the notice appeared to conflict with a frozen predicate, the predicate controls.
Marcel had already closed the HLV-side conceptual review and agreed the prospective operational separation of scorer, operators and observer.
That thread exposed a more general object.
A notice could make the constitutional conditions of an operation prospectively recoverable without itself becoming another operative criterion.
I provisionally call that:
PCN — Prospective Constitutional Notice.
The term Prospective matters.
A PCN exists before the outcome.
It does not manufacture a justification afterwards.
A minimal PCN may identify:
the object being acted upon;
its provenance and version identity;
the declared operation;
the materially relevant invariants;
the controlling predicates and failure conditions;
exposure and role boundaries;
the available dispositions;
the STOP condition;
the residual;
and the successor boundary.
It is therefore important to distinguish:
PCR concerns readiness for scientific disposition.
PCN concerns constitution of the conditions under which that disposition may be acquired.
The HLV correspondence is presently the principal experimental/procedural thread from which this PCN formulation has been recovered.
Contributory roles should remain narrow:
Marcel Krüger — HLV source-framework contributor and HLV-side reviewer;
Johann Pascher — independent conceptual/parity reviewer and proposer of the explicit predicate-precedence safeguard;
Stefaan Vossen — author of the proposed Constitutional Guidance Notice and subsequent PCN abstraction.
Again, their participation in the originating correspondence does not imply endorsement of the wider abstraction developed in this PLog.
Prospective constitution matters because chronology matters
This connects directly to another recurring Dot Theory object.
A rule declared after the outcome may be sensible.
It does not have the same epistemic status as a rule declared before the outcome.
A qualification introduced after failure may improve a successor model.
It does not become evidence that the predecessor already contained it.
A later architecture may expose a better interpretation.
That interpretation should not silently travel backwards into the information state under which an earlier operation occurred.
This is why chronology becomes epistemic.
The relevant questions include:
What was known when?
What was fixed when?
What was exposed when?
What operation was actually available then?
What changed only after the result?
The scientific object is therefore constituted not only by its content but by its sequence.
James Leavitt and the protection of information state
This point became particularly clear in a separate correspondence with James Leavitt.
James had an already constituted S⊙AL–LRP ( a collaborative application of https://www.dottheory.co.uk/paper/the-soal-game) sequence awaiting execution.
When later architecture — CANYON — entered surrounding discussions, James deliberately chose not to review it before the earlier sequence had been executed.
His reason was methodological rather than substantive.
He did not want later architecture entering the information state under which an earlier frozen object and its successor questions were supposed to be examined.
His own sequence was:
constitution → execution → result → disposition → residual → justified successor
He explicitly treated his non-exposure to CANYON as an additional prospective information-state restriction rather than pretending it had retrospectively been part of the frozen protocol.
That email thread supplies a useful independent example of the same principle:
successor information should not silently travel backwards into predecessor constitution.
James's contribution here is therefore not authorship of PCR or PCN.
It is an independently articulated sequencing and exposure boundary which materially informs the present synthesis.
Bernhard Mueller and the distinction between correspondence and successor experiment
A related boundary appeared in correspondence with Bernhard Mueller.
In discussing James's proposed two-node system, Bernhard identified that the two-node disagreement system reduced to an existing one-node structure under a change of coordinates and therefore should not automatically be treated as a genuinely new experimental result.
The smallest genuinely new system, on his account, was a three-node triangle.
That distinction produced another version of the same stopping principle:
correspondence is not successor novelty.
Before a new experiment is run, the question, equations, controls, observable and rejection condition should be specified sufficiently that the new object can fail as itself.
Bernhard also distinguished:
existing theorem;
exact computation;
equilibrium behaviour;
temporal response;
and a still-unestablished physical model.
Those distinctions reinforce the jurisdictional point:
a successful result in one register does not automatically acquire standing in another.
His contribution should therefore be understood as source-native mathematical and methodological material within the relevant email thread, not as endorsement of the PCR/PCN synthesis.
The stopping problem
This explains why STOP keeps appearing throughout the programme.
Stopping is not defeat.
Stopping is not ignorance.
Stopping is the declaration:
The presently constituted material does not establish another move under this scientific operation.
A STOP may later be reopened by additional information and become a different object.
It may be revisited under another declared operation.
It may generate a successor question.
Those are new constitutional events within the CCR-constituted context.
STOP prevents the analyst from turning desire for continuation into scientific standing.
That matters because a method which cannot stop eventually becomes able to explain everything.
And a method able to explain everything becomes difficult to reject.
Guidance becomes dictatorship when the boundary disappears
This problem was approached much earlier in:
When Does Guidance Become Dictatorial?
https://www.dottheory.co.uk/paper/guidance-dictatorship
The argument there was that guidance becomes dictatorial when a representation forgets that it is conditional and begins forcing reality to conform to its own model.
The essay states the central inflection directly: guidance becomes dictatorial when the representation it encodes is treated as complete rather than conditional.
Every model simplifies.
Every framework excludes.
Every protocol selects.
That is not the failure.
The failure occurs when the jurisdiction of the representation disappears from view.
The scientific analogue is familiar:
a successful model becomes an ontology;
a calibrated measure becomes a total description;
a classification becomes an identity;
a useful representation becomes the thing itself;
an evidentially supported transition becomes authority for every downstream inference.
PCN may therefore possess an important negative function.
It does not only declare what an operation may do.
It preserves where that operation must stop.
CITO, stopping and jurisdiction
This makes CITO especially relevant again.
https://www.dottheory.co.uk/paper/cito
CITO treats standing as operation-relative.
A representation may possess sufficient standing for one operation while lacking the standing required for another.
This is crucial.
Scientific standing is not a substance poured permanently into a representation.
It is a relation.
One operation may constitute:
measurement standing
without:
causal standing.
Another may constitute:
predictive standing
without:
ontological standing.
Another may constitute:
comparison standing
without:
identity.
The boundary between those operations is jurisdictional.
PCR fixes the thing.
PCN fixes the operation-relative constitutional environment in which its standing may change.
A small epistemological state space
Let:
PCR(O)
represent whether object O has acquired sufficient constituted identity for a meaningful scientific disposition.
Let:
PCN(O)
represent whether the conditions under which that disposition is to be obtained have been sufficiently prospectively constituted and made recoverable.
For a first deliberately minimal model:
PCR(O), PCN(O) ∈ {0,1}
Then define:
𝒞(O) ≡ ⟨PCR(O), PCN(O)⟩
Four states immediately appear.
⟨0,0⟩
Neither target nor conditions of examination are sufficiently constituted.
There may be interesting material.
There is not yet a stable scientific evaluation object.
⟨1,0⟩
The scientific object is sufficiently identifiable to fail, but the conditions under which its next disposition will be established are not sufficiently prospectively constituted.
We know what we are testing.
We do not yet adequately know what the result will be entitled to mean.
⟨0,1⟩
A careful operation has been specified, but the target itself remains inadequately constituted.
We know how we intend to test.
We do not yet know precisely enough what is being tested.
⟨1,1⟩
Both target and examination are sufficiently constituted for the declared operation.
This does not establish truth.
It creates something prior:
a recoverable scientific evaluation state.
The scientific object may therefore be a pair
This suggests:
Communicable science operates on constituted objects under constituted conditions of evaluation.
The minimal local scientific object may therefore not be:
O
alone.
It may instead be:
Ψˢ ≡ ⟨O, PCN(O)⟩
subject to:
PCR(O) = 1
I call Ψˢ here a:
scientific extended state.
That notation deliberately loops back to an earlier developmental object.
An archaeological return to Ψ = (ψ, μ)
The Invention of Truth
https://www.dottheory.co.uk/paper/the-invention-of-truth
introduced the earlier relation:
Ψ = (ψ, μ)
where:
ψ represented state;
and:
μ represented the context through which that state becomes meaningful.
That work is now explicitly preserved on Dot Theory as a historical developmental object rather than the current programme architecture.
It should not be rewritten as though PCR, PCN, SEM or F O R M were already present in it.
They were not.
The continuity is architectural.
A state is encountered under context.
Some aspect of it becomes rendered into a communicable representation.
That representation subsequently becomes a new object requiring another context of operation.
Schematically:
Ψ₀ = (ψ, μ₀)
produces a representation:
O₀ = Πμ₀(ψ)
Then O₀ itself becomes an object of scientific use.
At this second level:
Ψˢ₀ = ⟨O₀, PCN(O₀)⟩
The relationship is recursively similar:
state + context
becomes:
scientific object + constitutional context of operation.
The earlier architecture concerned encounter and interpretation.
The newer pair concerns accountable scientific succession.
The residual prevents the pair becoming an ontology
The earlier developmental work also used:
ψ = ⊙(Ψ)∼ ⊕ ΛΞ
to distinguish what had become rendered under the present context from a materially real remainder not presently stabilised in that rendering.
Whether or not that particular notation survives future work, the restraint it attempted to preserve remains relevant:
rendered ≠ total
A PCN should therefore never imply:
O = Reality.
It states:
This is the constituted object available for this operation, under these declared conditions, with these residuals remaining outside the standing presently earned.
The residual is not an embarrassment.
It is part of the scientific account.
F O R M now acquires a natural place
F O R M supplies another layer.
The collaborative F O R M — Constitutional Verification Protocol was developed by:
Diana Haskins
James Leavitt
Johann Pascher
Jaime Quílez Zamora
Stefaan Vossen
with related source-framework contributions in the wider programme including work from Marcel Krüger and others whose source objects remain separately attributable.
Published F O R M record:
https://zenodo.org/records/22875795
Its working grammar is:
F / Framework / ≡
O / Operator / ⊙
R / Residual / V
M / Model / ∟
PCR is not F O R M.
PCN is not F O R M.
Rather:
PCR says the object has become sufficiently definite to enter examination.
PCN says under what prospective constitutional conditions that examination occurs.
F O R M supplies a grammar for making the transformation and its residual inspectable.
Thus:
Ψˢ₀ = ⟨O₀, PCN₀⟩
→ F O R M operation
→ disposition + V + successor candidate
The successor candidate does not automatically inherit standing.
It must itself become sufficiently constituted:
successor candidate → PCR → PCN → Ψˢ₁
The return must have an address
This recursion is not a circle.
A later operator may return to an earlier object carrying additional information.
That does not alter the historical earlier object.
Hence the persistent requirements for:
version;
date;
hash where useful;
claim-state;
source identity;
exposure state;
operation;
and successor identity.
The same file encountered again by a changed operator is not the same epistemic event merely because the bytes are identical.
The record must preserve both:
what remained fixed
and:
what changed in the relation to it.
Otherwise recursion becomes retrospective reconstruction.
Reflexivity matters
If PCR and PCN are proposed as conditions for other scientific objects, they must themselves accept examination.
Their terminology must remain contestable.
Their scope must remain bounded.
Their own failure conditions must become stateable.
Their revisions must create visible successors.
Otherwise the proposal reproduces exactly the defect it claims to address.
Perhaps PCR proves redundant.
Perhaps PCN duplicates an existing formal object elsewhere.
Perhaps the binary state space is inadequate.
Perhaps the pair is one relation viewed from two sides.
Perhaps a particular scientific domain already contains a superior native implementation.
Those are legitimate possible results.
The rule must enter its own record.
From scientific standing to informational justice
A similar architecture appears when the object being evaluated is not a scientific model but a person.
That problem was developed normatively in:
Fight for Our Right — …to Party, Data, Compute, and the Conditions of Justice in Informational Societies
https://www.dottheory.co.uk/paper/fight-for-our-right
That essay argues that when institutions possess informational representations used to evaluate individuals while those individuals cannot meaningfully inspect or contest those representations, an epistemic asymmetry arises.
This produces a direct analogue.
A system has:
a representation of a person;
an operation performed upon that representation;
an interpretive result;
and a consequential use of that result.
The constitutional questions then become:
What representation was constituted?
From which data?
Under what operation?
What standing was assigned?
What residual uncertainty remained?
What consequence was licensed?
Can the affected person inspect or contest the relation?
A PCN-like structure would not by itself solve data justice.
But it makes one demand clearer:
If a consequential interpretation is going to acquire standing over a person, the constitution of that standing should itself be appropriately available for scrutiny.
That is both an epistemological and jurisprudential question.
A constitutional atom of communicable scientific computation
We can now return to the tempting word:
atom.
The pair:
⟨O, PCN(O)⟩
does not describe a fundamental particle of Reality.
It does not establish an ultimate ontology.
It describes something local.
A scientific object-state sufficiently constituted that:
its identity is recoverable;
its next operation is declared;
its failure conditions are available;
its jurisdiction is bounded;
its residual remains visible;
and another competent operator can determine what happened to it.
That makes it a candidate:
constitutional atom of communicable scientific computation.
Within a particular scientific operation, it may function as a local operational ontology:
this is the thing this operation is acting upon.
It must not silently become:
this is everything the represented reality ultimately is.
The scientific privilege of being wrong
This closes the loop to PLog 3.
The earlier proposition was:
The right to be right is conditioned by the right to be wrong.
PCR now names the constitution of the object capable of receiving that wrongness.
PCN names the prospective constitution of the operation under which wrongness can acquire bounded scientific meaning.
Together:
𝒞(O) = ⟨1,1⟩
may describe the minimum state in which:
this scientific object failed
has a sufficiently stable referent.
This also distinguishes two kinds of failure.
There is:
scientific failure —
the constituted object failed under the constituted operation.
And:
constitutional failure —
the conditions required to know exactly what failed, under what operation, or with what consequence were not themselves sufficiently constituted.
Those are not equivalent outcomes.
A candidate function of science
The emerging architecture may be written:
development
→ constituted identity
→ PCR
→ PCN
→ declared scientific operation
→ disposition
→ residual
→ successor candidate
→ PCR …
with:
STOP
where no successor has yet been constituted.
A candidate function is therefore:
E : ⟨O, PCN(O)⟩ → ⟨D, V⟩
where:
D = disposition produced under the declared operation;
and:
V = preserved residual.
If D and V establish a legitimate successor candidate O₁:
⟨D₀, V₀⟩ → O₁
then:
O₁ → PCR(O₁) → PCN(O₁) → Ψˢ₁
The operation may recursively generate material from which another operation becomes possible.
It does not grant that successor standing automatically.
What science accumulates
This may point toward a different answer to:
What does science accumulate?
Perhaps not merely facts.
Not merely observations.
Not merely models.
Not merely theories.
Science may accumulate:
recoverably constituted transitions between representations.
Each transition says:
this was the object;
this was its standing;
this was the operation;
this was the available information;
this was the result;
this was the residual;
this was where the operation stopped;
and this is what, if anything, became eligible to succeed it.
Scientific knowledge then begins to look less like a warehouse of statements and more like an addressable history of constrained transformations.
Developmental genealogy
The present proposal can now be read as part of a longer sequence.
Early state/context architecture:
The Invention of Truth
https://www.dottheory.co.uk/paper/the-invention-of-truth
supplied the developmental relation:
Ψ = (ψ, μ)
and the principle that interpretation operates under context and constraint.
Model-boundary and governance problem:
When Does Guidance Become Dictatorial?
https://www.dottheory.co.uk/paper/guidance-dictatorship
supplied the warning that representation becomes coercive when it forgets its conditional jurisdiction.
Closure, failure and succession:
The ATTA series supplied:
constituted case;
closure;
successor identity;
right to fail;
reflexive self-application;
addressable return;
and rendered STOP conditions.
The collected sequence is preserved in:
The Fifteenth ATTA — Collected Pamphlet of Nos. 1–14, July 2026.

Semantic carrier:
how they Seme
https://www.dottheory.co.uk/paper/how-they-seme
identified the problem of formal structure retaining mathematical validity while losing semantic entitlement to represent a particular scientific object.
Constitutive standing interface:
CITO — Constitutive Interface Theory of Observation
https://www.dottheory.co.uk/paper/cito
made the transition from representational availability to operation-relative scientific standing an explicit theoretical object.
Metrology of standing:
Scientific Epistemic Metrology — SEM
https://zenodo.org/records/23041075
made standing itself traceable across:
source → exposure → operation → result → standing → residual → successor
Operational grammar:
F O R M — Constitutional Verification Protocol
https://zenodo.org/records/22875795
supplied a collaborative grammar for Framework, Operator, Residual and Model.
PCR:
The Haskins–Vossen Chapter 2 correspondence supplied the immediate examination from which the candidate PCR distinction emerged.
The subsequent Quílez Zamora–Pascher–Vossen Poly-Instanton email thread supplied its first operational scientific case and adverse disposition.
PCN:
The Vossen–Pascher–Krüger SEM–HLV-FA-DYN-001 freeze correspondence supplied the immediate experimental/procedural material from which the PCN abstraction was recovered.
Temporal and successor boundary:
The Leavitt–Vossen S⊙AL–LRP correspondence supplied an independently articulated prospective exposure boundary and the sequence:
constitution → execution → result → disposition → residual → justified successor
Native-model and experimental boundary:
The Mueller–Leavitt–Vossen correspondence concerning the one-node, two-node and triangle systems supplied an independent distinction between:
existing correspondence;
existing theorem;
exact computation;
new experiment;
and physical interpretation.
The common structure across these threads is not claimed as proof that all contributors were implementing PCR or PCN.
They were not.
The claim is narrower:
their source-native contributions independently exposed distinctions that the later PCR/PCN pair may now be able to model together.
Contribution and provenance note
This PLog is authored by Stefaan Vossen within the Dot Theory / Constitutional Physics research programme.
Its proposed PCR/PCN synthesis, notation:
𝒞(O) ≡ ⟨PCR(O), PCN(O)⟩
and scientific extended-state proposal:
Ψˢ ≡ ⟨O, PCN(O)⟩
are Vossen working formulations.
They emerged through correspondence, scientific examination and collaborative protocol development involving several independently attributable contributors.
Particular acknowledgement is therefore due to:
Diana Haskins — for the FER-based examination in the developing Entitled to Know, Permitted to Act dialogue through which provisionality, STOP, “Final” versus “Constituted”, and the constitution/examination boundary became explicit;
Jaime Quílez Zamora — for placing a concrete scientific candidate under the first explicit PCR standing and accepting adverse disposition as a legitimate result;
Johann Pascher — for independent scientific examination of that PCR object, for earlier corrective work concerning recovery versus reconstruction, and for repeated contributions concerning observer boundaries, frozen predicates, prospective criteria and the requirement that operative predicates control explanatory guidance;
Marcel Krüger — for HLV source-framework participation and review, including prospective closure of conceptual review and operational separation of scoring, operator and observer roles;
James Leavitt — for explicitly formulating and preserving a prospective information-state boundary around an unexecuted scientific object and articulating the sequence constitution → execution → result → disposition → residual → justified successor;
Bernhard Mueller — for source-native mathematical comparison in the OPH/model-search correspondence, particularly the distinction between an existing correspondence, a genuinely new triangle system, theorem, exact computation and unestablished physical interpretation.
F O R M itself remains a collaborative publication attributable to its named authors:
Diana Haskins, James Leavitt, Johann Pascher, Jaime Quílez Zamora and Stefaan Vossen.
https://zenodo.org/records/22875795
These acknowledgements preserve contribution and provenance.
They do not imply that every named correspondent endorses PCR, PCN, the scientific-extended-state notation, the “constitutional atom” interpretation, or the wider conclusions of this PLog.
The relevant email threads may therefore be preserved and cited as developmental and experimental documentary material demonstrating where particular distinctions entered the record.
Working proposition
I would now state the proposal as follows:
Communicable scientific evaluation reaches a minimally constituted form when both the object to be evaluated and the conditions governing its evaluation are recoverably constituted.
Provisionally:
𝒞(O) ≡ ⟨PCR(O), PCN(O)⟩
and, where both relevant conditions are present:
Ψˢ ≡ ⟨O, PCN(O)⟩
becomes available as a scientific extended state for the declared operation.
The stronger hypothesis is:
The pair ⟨O, PCN(O)⟩ may function as a constitutional atom of communicable scientific computation: not the smallest thing that exists, but the smallest locally constituted scientific object-state whose identity, operation, failure, residual and successor boundary are sufficiently recoverable for public scientific evaluation.
That proposition now deserves examination.
Research status
This PLog records a developmental synthesis.
It does not declare PCR, PCN or their pairing to be established scientific universals.
The binary representation:
PCR, PCN ∈ {0,1}
is deliberately minimal.
It may survive.
It may require a typed or vector formulation.
It may collapse into another established formal distinction.
It may prove useful only in some domains.
The immediate scientific question is whether independent applications can distinguish usefully between:
an underconstituted target;
an underconstituted operation;
a constituted but scientifically unsuccessful object;
and a result whose standing remains unresolved.
If those distinctions prove recoverable and useful across heterogeneous scientific cases, the pair may earn stronger standing.
If not, it should be revised or rejected.
That is precisely the privilege the proposal claims scientific objects should earn.
It should not exempt itself from it.
